CHAPTER 1
PRELIMINARY
1.
Background
This
mature technology systems in the world is growing rapidly as time passes.
almost all
jobs are dependent on this technology.
Not just a job
but who uses computer facilities in learning and everyday life always use
computer technology in it.
Not merely to obtain
satisfaction or just to look fancy but computer greatly affect the wild life
such as ease in human work and minimize the human work so that people become
very advanced in the current competition.
But
that does not mean the computer is a very major media and everything but the
computer is a media aide brain or second hand of the man who makes it in its
activity.
same as with
humans, the computer also will not run well without its nerve or its more
precise on a computer network.
Network will
be discussed in chapter 2 that a discussion of the subject on paper that we've
created.
Core
computer very influential life of this world. not only human beings but all
living beings in this world almost be handled by special computer of his in the
fields of research, scientific, technological and even nature can be controlled
by a computer, but that does not mean this against the will of God, but this is
only human effort alone in expressing thoughts and ideas her make it better

3. Purpose of Making
Paper
As
for our goal in preparing this paper is to fulfill the task of English 2 that
is given by the mother tati mardewi discussed as a lecturer in English 2.
Moreover as for other
purposes, namely:

Understanding what a computer network.
b.
Knowing what types contained in the computer system network.
c.
What kind of characteristics within the network computer system.
d.
Knowing the equipment or any media that is used for this network computer system.
e.
Understand more material on computer networks.
4. The benefits of making
this paper
There
are so many benefits in making this paper that will be earned by all of us as a
student besides that we also could deepen further material on networked
computer systems.
Besides
this paper were made to get the value of English language courses two of our
faculty. Many lessons can be drawn from this simple paper though not so nice
and look much but when used in the study can add insight in learning,
especially in the field of computer networks.
There is some
information that will didapatka in this paper as:
a. We can find out what
a computer network
b. We can understand
what types on a computer network
c. We can get
information also form the characteristic on networked computer systems
d. We can know the
equipment or any media that already exist and are used in computer systems for
the network.
CHAPTER 2
DISCUSSION
A. Definition
of computer network
A
computer network is a group of interconnected computers. Networks may be
classified according to a wide variety of characteristics. The benefit of a
computer network are: Sharing hardware resources easily and Sharing information
easily.
A
network is a collection of computers connected to each other. The network
allows computers to communicate with each other and share resources and information.
The Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) designed "Advanced Research
Projects Agency Network“ (ARPANET) for the United States Department of Defense.
It was the first computer network in the world in late 1960's and early 1970's.
B.
Type Of Computer Network
1. Local-area
networks (LANs): The computers are geographically close together (that is, in
the same building).
2. Wide-area
networks (WANs): The computers are farther apart and are connected by telephone
lines or radio waves.
3. Campus-area
networks (CANs): The computers are within a limited geographic area, such as a
campus or military base.
4. Metropolitan-area
networks (MANs): A data network designed for a town or city.
5. Home-area
networks (HANs): A network contained within a user's home that connects a
person's digital devices.

Characteristics Different Type of
Network
The
following characteristics are used to categorize different types of networks :
1. topology:
The geometric arrangement of a computer system. Common topologies include a
bus, star, and ring.
2. protocol:
The protocol defines a common set of rules and signals that computers on the
network use to communicate. Two of the most popular protocols for LANs is
called Ethernet and the IBM token-ring network.
3. architecture:
Networks can be broadly classified as using either a peer-to-peer or
client/server architecture.
Computers
on a network are sometimes called nodes. Computers and devices that allocate
resources for a network are called servers.

Devices for Computer Network
There
are many kinds of devices to create a computer network. For a basic computer
network we would need :
1. Network
Interface Cards
A network card, network adapter or NIC
(network interface card) is a piece of computer hardware designed to allow
computers to communicate over a computer network. NIC can be identified easily.
It has a special port called RJ-45. RJ means Registered Jack. And also a led to
indicate a data is being transferred.
2. Repeaters
A repeater is an electronic device that
receives a signal and retransmits it at a higher power level, or to the other
side of an obstruction, so that the signal can cover longer distances without
degradation.
3. Hub
A hub contains multiple
ports. When a packet arrives at one port, it is copied to all the ports of the
hub for transmission. When the packets are copied, the destination address in
the frame does not change to a broadcast address.
4. Router
A device that forwards
data packets between computer networks, creating an overlay internetwork. A
router is connected to two or more data lines from different networks. When a
data packet comes in one of the lines, the router reads the address information
in the packet to determine its ultimate destination. Then, using information in
its routing table or routing policy, it directs the packet to the next network
on its journey. Routers perform the "traffic directing" functions on
the Internet.

Conclusion
From the discussion
paper on the above we can conclude that the computer network is very useful and
very useful especially in the use of computers because it will connect all the
devices to each other so that the computers are connected properly.

Suggestion
Realizing that the
author is still far from perfect, the future will be more focused and writers
in explaining details about the paper above the source - the source of more
that must be accounted.
